The LG Energy Solution E85A is a high-nickel NCM pouch cell rated at 3.7V, 85Ah and 314.5Wh. Its large-format construction combines substantial single-cell energy with a reported 170A continuous discharge capability, low internal resistance and controlled high-rate charging. The cell is intended for professionally engineered mobility, energy-storage and industrial battery modules with suitable electrical protection, compression and thermal management.
A nominal voltage of 3.7V and rated capacity of 85Ah provide 314.5Wh of single-cell energy. The capacity is specified under a 0.3C standard discharge condition at 25±2°C. This large energy content can reduce the cell count required in high-capacity modules while supporting straightforward series and parallel pack configuration.
The E85A uses an aluminum-laminated soft pouch enclosure with aluminum tabs and reported dimensions of 355 × 105 × 14mm. Its approximately 950g mass and thin rectangular profile support compact module layouts. Pack designers must provide controlled compression, tab strain relief, insulation, swelling allowance and mechanical protection against bending, puncture and impact.
The reported 2C continuous discharge rating corresponds to 170A per cell, supporting power-demanding battery modules when adequate cooling and low-resistance interconnections are provided. Peak output is listed at 3C-10C for a millisecond non-continuous pulse. Because the exact duration is not stated, the pulse range requires confirmation before BMS or inverter current limits are programmed.
Standard charging uses a 0.5C or 42.5A CC/CV profile with a 4.20V cut-off. A maximum charging current of 2C or 170A is reported for short-time charging only and is not the standard cycle condition. Charging must remain between 0°C and 45°C, with sub-zero charging prohibited to reduce lithium-plating risk.
AC internal resistance is listed at no more than 0.4mΩ at 25°C in a static state, supporting reduced conduction loss and responsive power delivery. The specified discharge temperature range extends from -20°C to 55°C, although usable capacity may decrease at low temperature. Module cooling and temperature sensing remain essential under sustained high-current operation.
Cycle life is reported at approximately 2,000-3,000 cycles to 80% remaining capacity under 0.5C charging and discharging at 25°C. Actual service life will depend on depth of discharge, average SOC, charging voltage, current, temperature and compression uniformity. Application-specific testing is recommended before establishing pack warranty or lifecycle commitments.
Custom battery pack applications: Subject to verification against the original LGES controlled specification, the E85A may support electric motorcycles, electric tricycles, low-speed vehicles, auxiliary EV systems, portable energy storage and industrial backup power. Misenpower supplies cells and supports custom pack integration with a matched BMS, fuse protection, welded tab interconnects, voltage and temperature sensing, insulation, controlled compression, cooling and mechanical restraint. Where applicable and available, supporting CE, UN38.3, RoHS and UL documentation can be provided for the relevant product and shipment; scope and validity must be confirmed before ordering.
